Jazz Saxophonist Mike Casey

Jazz saxophonist Mike Casey is a Connecticut native who has always been drawn to music and broadening his exploration of jazz.  His extensive musical education in Connecticut is not only impressive, it’s obvious during his performances.  Mike Casey often plays with two other musicians under the name The Mike Casey Trio; view upcoming shows here.

Jazz Education

Mike Casey was instantly drawn to the saxophone in the 5th grade.  After, Casey attended The Greater Hartford Academy of the Performing Arts in Hartford, Connecticut.  The Greater Hartford Academy of the Performing Arts gave Casey the tools to master jazz structure and precision as well as think creatively.

After graduating from high school and The Greater Hartford Academy, he attended the acclaimed Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz (University of Hartford’s Hartt School).  While attending Hartt, Casey had the opportunity to study with renowned jazz musicians including saxophonists Abraham Burton, Rene McLean and Javon Jackson as well as trombonist Steve Davis and bassist Nat Reeves.

Mike was selected as one of 24 young jazz musicians and composers to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts located in Washington, D.C.  Here he was given the opportunity to work with notable jazz artists from Jason Moran to Eric Revis, J.D. Allen, Andre Hayword, Carmen Lundy and more.
