The 2015 New Haven Jazz Festival: Celebrating Women in Jazz

The 2015 New Haven Jazz Festival is celebrating women in jazz!  For 33 years, the New Haven Jazz Festival has featured new and notable musicians to share their passion for live music with Connecticut!  This year, the New Have Jazz Festival will kick off on Saturday, August 22nd on the New Haven Green in downtown New Haven.

A Community Event

This year’s 2015 New Haven Jazz Festival is presented by JAZZ HAVEN, in association with New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, the Department of Arts, Culture & Tourism and the Cultural Affairs Commission, City of New Haven.  This festival is free admission and will feature food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, a festival artist to work with kids and more!

  •  6:00 – 6:30 p.m. – local area youth band TBA
  •  6:45 – 7:45 p.m. – Isabella Mendes Quintet
  • 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. – The Karrin Allyson Quartet

The headlining act of this year’s New Haven Jazz Festival celebrating women in jazz is four-time Grammy nominated Karrin Allyson!  This phenomenal singer-pianist performs music inspired by a variety of genres including bossa nova, blues, bebop, samba, jazz standards and other jazz modalities; other inspiration comes from ballads, pop standards, the Great American Songbook, soft rock and folk rock.  Allyson is known for having impeccable intonation and The New York Times has called her the “singer with a feline touch”.  Karrin Allyson will perform with Steve Cardenas on guitar, Ed Howard on bass and Adam Cruz on drums; this headlining performance will take place on Saturday, August 22nd at 8 p.m.

The opening acts for this year’s New Haven Jazz festival includes the Jazz Haven All Star Youth Band as well as singer, songwriter and pianist Isabella Mendes!
