2.  Davis was introduced to music by his mother, Cleota Mae Davis, who was a talented blues pianist.  Always encouraging her son to sit down to play the piano, she never divulged her true talent.  It was not until his 13th birthday that his musical studies began; Miles Davis’ father, Miles Dewey Davis Jr (who was a dentist), arranged for his son to have trumpet lessons.

3.  During fall 1944, Miles Davis entered New York’s prestigious Julliard School of Music.

4.  It was during the “Birth of Cool” era, where Miles Davis worked on cultivating a sound with his trumpet, similar to human voice.  Compositions emphasized a relaxed and melodic approach.

5.  Long after Davis’ passing in 1991, Miles Davis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He is now officially recognized as one of the key figures in the history of jazz.
