Ladies Night At Monday Night Jazz

The Monday Night Jazz summer concerts ended in Bushnell Park on Monday August 12th with a duo of young, talented ladies.

Opening the evening was the Shenel Johns Quintet. This Hartford area vocalist and back up crew started the night in really fine fashion. Johns vocals and stage presence were simply amazing for such a young performer. Not the first time for Shenel on the Bushnell stage, she was featured the previous week with the Orice Jenkins Septet. Just cannot say enough about the wealth of talent in the Hartford area.

As the sun set behind the capital building, the Brandee Younger Quintet started their set. I have to admit that this was a first for me, a jazz harpist!!! I don’t think I was the only person to be so taken by Brandee, the front of the stage was flooded with picture takers as she began a set with her truly unique and interesting take on some new and familiar tunes. Really happy the Hartford Jazz Society gives this new talent an opportunity to get out in front of a large crowd of music lovers and express themselves. Pretty sure this is a treat for the musicians as well as those of us who were mesmerized by all this young talent.

Well another year of Monday Night Jazz at Bushnell Park has ended. Thank you Hartford Jazz Society for keeping Paul Brown’s dream alive for another year. This is very hard work all done by volunteers. Please support the HJS throughout the year so this wonderful tradition can live on.

Enjoy the Music.  ENJOY IT LIVE!!!
