The 5th Annual Jazz Festival at Yale

The lineup for the 5th Annual Jazz Festival at Yale is fulled with amazing performances.  Both Saturday and Sunday’s headliners are bound to present a refreshing live jazz experience.

5th Annual Jazz Festival at Yale (M'Balia)

Yale alumnus M’Balia Singley (SY’94) will open the festival Saturday, April 22nd.  A jazz vocalist who approaches standards with a “fiercly individualistic style and a generous dallop of gospel grouding,” as well as “ace” songwriting wit, M’Balia is not to be missed.  M’Balia’s list of collaborators is impressive and includes renowned artists such as John Legend and Orrin Evans.  Her longtime pianist, Sarah Slonim will join her onstage.

5th Annual Jazz Festival at Yale (Scott)

Grammy Award-nominated New Orleans Trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah will headline Sunday, April 23rd.  Noted as a beacon of innovation in jazz today, as well as the architect of a new genre, Stretch Music, Scott is hailed as “Jazz’s young style god”.  He will be performing and delivering a pre-concert talk at the Jazz Festival at Yale in promotion of his newest record, Ruler Rebel, which will be the first in a three album set that Scott is producing to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the very first Jazz recordings of 1917.

5th Annual Jazz Festival at Yale (Adam O'Farrill)

The festival’s other performances include young powerhouse group Adam O’Farrill’s Stranger Days, Cameroonian bassist Richard Bona, cisionary pianist composer Randy Weston and more.

The Jazz Collective would like to particularly thank our Platinum Sponsor the Side Door Jazz Club in Old Lyme, CT, one the country’s best clubs which programs amazing music all year round, as well as the festival’s Gold Sponsor, WPKN (89.5 FM), listener supported community radio.
